Madam Speaker’s new math

It’s so reassuring that these people are in charge.

Seriously, are they just making it up as they go? Nancy Pelosi: “Every month that we don’t have an economic recovery package, 500 million Americans lose their jobs.”

So about 200 million more people than the entire population of the country gets a pink slip every month. If that’s true, the $1 trillion stimulus is grossly inadequate — we need about $165 trillion more.

But as Allahpundit over at Hot Air puts it:

Don’t be too hard on Nancy for this little goof. When you’re burning through cash by the trillions, it’s easy to overlook the difference between penny-ante concepts like “thousand” and “million.”

What would have happened if George W. Bush had said that?

Get that woman a calculator.

The only thing I can say is if that mistake were done by ex president George W. Bush, next day would be in all important newspapers!.

Does she realize that a a pace of 500 million/ month the whole United States would be paralized by now?.

I thought something was wrong with me….I thought I was “mathematically” impaired or something. The 500 million number of jobs that Nancy said would be lost if the stimulus package was not passed right away was repeated on all of the news programs…. with no one mentioning that the population in the US is estimated at a little over 300 million. I was feeling very confused…and then I figured that the other 200 million or so are probably in the 57th state that Obama visited during his campaign…or in the 58th state he planned on visiting. So…everything is alright afterall.

Nancy sweetie, I’m sure someone in Congress will let you borrow their (or is it there in Pelosi speak) calculator. Maybe you could get a $5,000.00 dollar calculator, I’m sure you’re (or is it your) to good or too important to use a simple calculator like the rest of us use. Please honey, buy a brain. Note to self, it is apparent that if Botox leaks into the brain area it will cause brain damage.
