Support not so stimulating

Word that the Gang of 14 was reorganizing sent chills down my spine, but it looks like — at least for the stimulus stink — that’s not going to happen.
Here’s John McCain on “Fox & Friends” this morning:
McCain’s actually got a good track record on fighting pork, so it’s good to see he’s not caving.
He also make some good points, but I doubt Pelosi, Obama and Reid will listen. Like instituting spending cuts once the economy gets back on its feet. That would just be too responsible for Democratic leaders.
These are arguments Republicans can win, even if they lose the vote along party lines. Hopefully the rest of the moderate GOP senators will follow Mac’s lead.
What’s more, public support for the stimulus is slipping.
On Wednesday, Gallup showed that a slim majority of 52 percent of Americans supported the bill.
But then in yesterday’s Rasmussen poll, only 42 percent said they supported the pork-laden package.
And the Fox poll has support at only 45 percent.
Even Ben Nelson, the Democrat from Nebraska who was trying to organize the Gang of 14 reunion, has doubts.
