The twits, they’re a swooning

UPDATED

I don’t “get” twitter. Perhaps someday I will.

Apparently it’s all the rage in Congress — and that was evident today after Obama met with GOP members.

But here’s the problem. Technology is great. Being connected is a good thing. But you can’t let that replace human interaction — or use it hide from uncomfortable questions.

The Hill has a short blurb about the Republican congressmen “swooning” over Obama. Fair enough — but the information all came from the congressmen “tweeting” — sending out short status message on the twitter platform.

The public (read: the congressmen’s constituents) is better served with when reporters ask follow-up questions. Instead, the newshounds are relegated to copy and pasting “tweets” under the guise of reporting.

Here’s questions that should have been asked, and answered.

“There’s real desire in this room to figure a way back to prosperity,” Inglis wrote on Twitter. “[The president] and Republicans here [are] expressing deep concern about unemployment.”

What do you mean by deep concern? Isn’t everyone concerned? How does mutual deep concern translate into an economic turn-around exactly?

“If [the] President carries this on it does open door for a new tone!” Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) exclaimed.

Carries what on? Bipartisanship? What about his comments that congress shouldn’t listen to Rush Limbaugh and his quip that “I won” when GOP members pressured him on spending?

“Sharp differences are muted,” Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) Twittered.

How so? By putting childish ways behind? By dismissing them as partisan? How are genuine, stark differences handled?

Jeff Flake, of course, seemed to tweet it right:

President Obama is speaking to House Republicans right now on Democratic stimulus bill. Good sales man, bad product.

As an aside, isn’t it interesting that the GOP is tweeting all over the place, while the Obama White House can’t figure out e-mail?

UPDATE

As evidence that Obama’s post-partisan rhetoric is bunch of horse manure, does anyone else find it odd that he waited until the DAY BEFORE THE VOTE to meet with the GOP members?

And these twitcompoops are falling all over themselves in awe of Obama’s charisma while Pelosi and Reid leave the Republicans in the dark.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain …
