How the times have changed

The massive U.S. media coverage of the London car bomb incident early yesterday shows just how much things have changed. It’s all over the T.V., will likely be in all the papers this morning and will dominate the weekend’s news shows.
Back in 1995 I took a trip to London with school. A week before we were to leave, not only had my parents jokingly hidden my passport (it wasn’t very funny), but there was a small item in the news that someone was lobbing small bombs on the runway at Heathrow.
In those days, a car bomb going off in London wasn’t a big deal stateside. It was a small item. Thrown in at the end of a newscast or including in the World Briefs section of the paper.
Now, after Sept. 11, it’s big news.
How the times have changed.
