I’ve had “impact” and “facility” drilled into my head as “words NOT to use unless you want the editor to take you to task for it.” So then you could put it all together and get this: When Tom achieved his editing position at a San Diego facility, he experienced things that had an impact on his life. In other words, Tom didn’t change much.
