Hey gang. I know, I know… I suck at this blogging thing. If you ask my friends they’ll tell you I suck at the returning e-mail thing and answering voice mail thing too… get over it.

Hopefully, I’ll start posting more. We’re starting some exciting things at work at The Coast News that I’ll let you all know about later. Also, I hooked myself up with a new laptop, so maybe (and I mean MAYBE) I’ll be inspired to write more (the thinking behind this is that when I get home from work, the last thing I want to do is sit at a desk… so usually by the time I get to thinking about the blog, I’m ready to get away from the chair… so get this image in your head… Tommy typing his blog… IN BED…. calm down ladies).

Just to catch up on some of my recent thoughts….

Hunter S. Thompson killed himself… what a freakin’ waste. I love his books, and his writing style is definitely fun to read (I do hope that his death will put an end to all of the wanna-be Good Doctors, but I doubt I’m that lucky). What a freakin’ waste…

For you writers out there… Let’s end the whole “experienced”and “achieved” crap. I know that technically you are allowed to use certain words as verbs by adding an “ed” at the end, but it’s lazy, bordering on passive and just shows that you lack strong vocabulary and were never shown how to appropriately use a thesaurus…. STOP! After I achieved my position editing stories I experienced massive migraines reading that shit. Let’s get more creative with our verbs people… (from the editor’s desk…sorry)…

On the “Bush tapes” … I don’t see the big deal. They don’t teach us anything new about our president, it’s all stuff we’ve known for a long time. Why waste soooo much ink and air time on it… maybe it’s just a slow news week… with just rain to report…

Valentines Day is retarded… get over it…

“The American people have given me em-dash capital, and I intend to spend it,” said Andrew Phelps tonight…

Columnists, columnists, columnists… what every columnist at this paper needs to do is shut the f–k up! ($1 to the first person to name the source of that quote… Coast News staffers are not eligible.)

That’s it for now…

Stephen? If he didn’t say it I have two more guesses.

I only wish the quote were mine.

Damm! Was it Chuck?

I’ve had “impact” and “facility” drilled into my head as “words NOT to use unless you want the editor to take you to task for it.” So then you could put it all together and get this: When Tom achieved his editing position at a San Diego facility, he experienced things that had an impact on his life. In other words, Tom didn’t change much. ;-)

Yikes. That turned into a yellow smiley. How very … odd. And unexpected.

Facility is not nearly as bad as “facilitate” which ranks with “utilize” in my book.

I would like to apprehend the perpetrators of those usage crimes. I just hope it would be without incident.

I’m disappointed in all of you… the quote is from the movie “The Paper” — Robert Duvall, as the editor, ranting about columnists…. oi.
